Looks like a bit of vote suppression by some of Clinton’s well-wishers in North Carolina. An outfit called Women’s Voices, Women Vote is calling black people in North Carolina with messages that appear designed to sow confusion about registration procedures and deadlines. The organization claims it’s an innocent mistake, and perhaps it was, except that they’ve apparently been caught up in similar controversies in 10 other states. Each time, the response is, “oopsie!”
The non-profit’s board members include Clinton supporters such as Joe Goode, a pollster for Bill’s 1992 campaign and John Podesta, former Clinton White House chief of staff. The organization claims to organized for the purpose of registering unmarried women to vote. At the very least, the organization seems to make a *lot* of mistakes for a well-funded outfit chock-full of experienced political operators.
Update I liked the following from Majikthise on the subject:
One might assume this was an innocent mistake, but the behind the calls turns out to have disseminated inaccurate voter information in multiple states. Page Gardner of Women’s Voices Women’s Votes says the whole thing was just a misguided attempt to register women voters. Somehow they ended up targeting a fair number of people who were neither women, nor unregistered, and telling them to do things that couldn’t possibly help them register. WVWV also forgot to identify itself as the sponsor of these calls. Finally, they forgot to specify whether submitting one’s application now would register someone for the primary or the general election, if indeed they weren’t registered already.

sow. Homonyms and SpellChecker, Bah.
Actually sounds like an HRC behavior, not a supporter’s idea.

Fixed “sew” to “sow”. Thanks. Homonyms always trip me up. I know the correct spellings, but get typing and who knows what’s going to come out.
I have to be especially vigilant about the various forms of “there”.

“I’m sorry to hear you’re not supporting HRC. But be sure to show up and vote for your candidate on May 7!”

Hehe.
(And, in case anyone doesn’t get the joke — and to avoid confusion, Indiana’s primary is on May 6, 2008)

Thank you for reminding us that Her Royal Hillary has run a low-ball, slime, campaign from start to finish. I’ve heard stories like this throughout the primary season. Yet CNN and our other news outlets cannot see past Rev. Wright and other loose guilt by association stories. Ask Indiana voters about Clinton and Magnaquench, about the money Dubai and Columbia pays to Bill. There is sooo much poop to be played on the Clintons…and this seems criminal like the Peter Paul case.

The media is owned by corporations who run our government through the GOP. In order to continue to do so, the media saturates the air waves with anti-Obama propaganda because the GOP wants to run against Hillary Clinton knowing her many past illegal activities and the lies she has used to attack Obama make her the easiest to swift boat in the general election. We witnessed voter suppression by the GOP in the last two elections, and Clinton often brags that she knows how to play the Washington game so of course, her campaign has been run down and dirty to include voter suppression. This is exactly why Americans have formed a grass roots movement to support Senator Barack Obama, the presidential candidate with integrity, intelligence and judgment.

at first i didn’t believe this, but doing some research on my own this is very disturbing. One state i read about and thought…political stupidity, but 10 states..ughh…ok after one i dont buy the excuses we didnt know.
maybe this is nothing, or easily explained but, i heard the clip and that didnt sound like nothing. so…maybe i will turn on the TV and the media will show this? i mean, this is news…voter fraud rather big as a voter…please let me hear something like this instead of a amusing preacher on center stage.
This is a real issue..

Okay Hillary-istas out there…I just cannot understand how you can operate this way and support this woman. I have daughters and I do not want them think that you have to lie in order to compete as a woman. I do not see this as feminism.

It’s all manipulation… it’s quite possible that the President is already decided, judging by the shenanegans at the last election.
