“You say it’s your birthday, it’s my birthday too – yeah.”
—The Beatles
Long ago, I was jealous of my step-brother when he had his 7th birthday on 7/7/77. He got seven silver dollars from the bank at the little town he lived in. Of course, I had my 17th birthday on 8/8/88. But in terms of numerological aesthetics, I think I like 08/08/08 better.
Not much of interest happened on 8/8/71, according to a Google search. France did a nuclear test at Muruora Island and Jane Blalock won an LPGA tournament.
Incidentally, it’s nice of China and the world to recognize my big day by kicking off an Olympics. As for myself, I’ll probably go to work and then grill up some steaks tonight. Amy & the kids picked out some nice presents. Cole’s excitement about my birthday is contagious. That’s one of the great thing about kids — they help you see the world through fresh eyes. A birthday through the eyes of a four year old is far superior to one through the eyes of a 37 year old.

Happy birthday. I remember 8/8/88 well: it was the first night game at Wrigley Field, although the game was rained out after a couple of innings and therefore the next night’s game was the “official” first night game. But all the pomp and circumstance occurred on 8/8/88.

Happy Birthday . . . I had a 06/07/08 this year, but not as good as 08/08/08.

Thanks!
Oddly, I can’t remember what I did on 8/8/88. I recall that, the year before, on 8/8/87, I had gotten my driver’s license (learners permit, anyway) and I got to drive from Richmond to Hagerstown to go eat a birthday dinner at Wellivers.
I recall the following year, on 8/8/89, I was chomping at the bit to get off to college. I had a nice dinner with my folks, but then headed to a buddy’s house where I spent the night and we went behind a local elementary school and drank some whiskey he had acquired somehow.
But, I’m drawing a blank on 8/8/88 for some reason.

A very Happy B’Day to you Doug.

…And INFINITELY BETTER than through the eyes of a near 56 year old (as I will be on the 22nd).
Sure you have wisdom and knowledge, but darn, how I miss that “innocence”.
;)
Enjoy.

Happy b-day! Yeah, kids have a way of making birthdays better!
Today is also my 16th anniversary-so it’s a good day all around!
Doug says
Thanks again, everyone. Just had a killer dinner. Seems like half of my birthdays have involved dinners of steak, corn, and tomatoes. It was my first locally grown corn of the year. I’m just stuffed. Amy and the kids made a cake for me, too.
Now we’re kickin’ back with a little Harry Belafonte & the Muppets. I can think of worse ways to spend a day.

Happy birthday, Dough!
If you can’t remember what you did on 8/8/88, chances are it was a pretty good time. :-)

Er, Doug. Sheesh. Sorry.

I’ve been called worse!
