(H/t Fort Wayne Observed) DNR has announced the 2008 trail grants. The full list is here. For my county:
Farm Heritage Trail Award: $700,000.00. Approximately 26 miles of former railroad property consisting of approximately 299 acres in Boone, Clinton and Tippecanoe Counties will be acquired for future trail development.
Update The Lafayette Journal & Courier has more on the Lafayette part of the trail grant.

Wow, the Pennsy might be built before I require weelchair access! I know as a Marion County resident I can’t complain, as we have some very nice trail access, but as an Irvingtonian, between promises made about the Pennsy and the Michigan/New York bike lanes over the years, I sometimes feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. I am surprised that they are doing from Arlington to Shortridge and not the extra half-mile or so to Audubon. Maybe Jason266 can weigh in.

I’m glad they’re focusing on two trails here in northwest Indiana. Glad to also see that the Cardinal Greenway will be extended north of Richmond. I ride that trail on occasion when I’m back home.

Munster got money for their portion of the Pennsy. It hooks up with a trail on the Illinois side of the state line that takes you all the way to Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. It is a very cool ride.

I haven’t done that ride, yet. Maybe this summer. I do plan to spend a day riding the Oak-Savannah and the Duneland Prairie from Griffith to Chesterton and back. Last time I did it the trail was about 30 miles round trip. I understand they’ve added some more into Chesterton.

None for Bartholomew County, and very few south of Indianapolis.
