The Courier Press has an article legislation that will be proposed by Rep. Stevenson (D-Highland) that would make it a Class C felony for an employer to knowingly or intentionally violate administrative rules (presumably worker safety rules) that lead to the death of an employee. Rep. Stevenson calls it the “Corporate Manslaughter” act. My guess is that this article is more or less the last we’ll hear of this bill this session. With the Republicans in control of the House, pro-labor legislation is unlikely to get a hearing, let alone passage. And then, even if by some miracle it passed the House, it would go where all good labor laws go to die: Senator Harrison’s labor committee.
