The Poor Man has an inspired rant on the relative merits of Commando versus Red Dawn. The inspiration for this rant is the Washington Post’s decision to give a Republican activist space on their website, apparently to balance commentary by a journalist who sometimes says things that Republican activists don’t like. Said activist, in his inaugural column asserted that conservatives like the Patrick Swayze movie, Red Dawn.
The Poor Man’s verdict: Red Dawn was gay. Commando, back when Arnie was Arnie, rocked.
For my own part, if you’re going to pick a Swayze movie, it has to be Road House. If you’re going to pick an Arnie movie, it should probably be Conan the Barbarian or possibly The Running Man. But, if you’re not confined to the 80s, you should always pick Starship Troopers.
But seriously, go check out The Poor Man movie review. I actually laughed out loud.
Craig says
Swayze as Dalton … like Gielgud as Lear, only better.
Doug says
And yet Sam Elliott as Wade Garrett surpasses even Swayze’s transcendent performance.

I wonder what it means if you are not a conservative, but you like *both* movies…
(although Red Dawn was better – what ten-year-old kid doesn’t relish the thought of fighting off the commies that are invading the SCHOOL)
