Now I’m messing around with the time stamp. Figured I’d set it to GMT. (I’ve been advised that UTC is the correct terminology, but I can’t figure out a dead simple way to get a display in that format.)

Or “CUT” for “Coordinated Universal Time” if you favor the fully English version over the French “looking” UTC but not quite French “TUC”. Pilots and the military often just refer to GMT, CUT, UTC, TUC as “Zulu” time, but it isn’t to be confused with South African Standard Time (“SAST or GMT+2). South Africa, by the way, is another of those “unenlightened” places that doesn’t use DST.
How about setting the time stamp to Columbian time? They use GMT-5 year round, i.e. Hoosier Standard Time.

Ah, Colombian time — the preferred time zone of coffee growers and quasi-Marxist narco-terrorists. :)
This’ll be great for Mitch Daniels and the Indiana GOP — they can resurrect two of their favorite fearmongering devices, drug dealers and communists, and deploy them through their usual mouthpieces against Democratic DST opponents.
Pat Bauer, prepare to tremble at the might of Greg Garrison and his powerful echo chamber!

I got called away to help with the kids before I figured out the time stamp. Consequently it’s reflecting that it’s 5,000 hours off of UTC. Seems my wife didn’t think me monkeying around with blog time indications wasn’t sufficiently important that she thought she should have to deal with 3 preschoolers destroying the house all by herself. Go figure.
Branden Robinson says
That’s just crappy input validation. On the other hand, if you let a pro-DST Hoosier write the input validation code, they’d assume that the legal range of values for time zones would be limited to UTC-12 to UTC+12, and would be in whole-hour increments.
And they’d be wrong.
When will the rest of the world stop laughing at the pro-DST yokels?
