Today there is a story in the Journal and Courier reporting that “Cities Ranked & Rated” by Bert Sperling and Peter Sander has put Lafayette as #25 on the list of best places to live. They ranked “more than 400 metropolitan areas in the United States and Canada.” Gainesville, FL is #1, Bellingham, WA is #2. Bloomington is down from #29 in 2004 to #86 this year. Carmel is #19 up from #79.
I don’t know about these rankings, necessarily, but I’ll just add my two cents that Lafayette is a very nice town.

How did Bloomington fall so precipitously in this ranking?
As for Lafayette, the folks doing the rankings didn’t spend much time in Lafayette traffic, getting grey hair waiting for the first person in line to wake up and move through the intersection when the light turns green…
In general, I would concur that Lafayette is a nice town with some very charming features and is particularly attractive this time of year.

I don’t know what happened to Bloomington. Lafayette definitely has some traffic problems — I’ll consider yanking my teeth out before going through 26 & 52 around 8 a.m. or 5 p.m.
