Thomas over at Blue Indiana is looking forward to election day 2007. I, to the contrary, have not been able to work up any interest in the 2007 election. The big races seem to be Henry v. Kelty in Fort Wayne; Ballard v. Peterson in Indianapolis, and Manigault v. Luecke in South Bend. So far as I can tell, the story lines are a) Kelty’s spectacular implosion; b) Peterson’s apparent failure to completely put Ballard out of contention despite Ballard’s lack of support and money from the Republican party; and c) the closeness of the South Bend race as well as anti-Luecke mailings declaring the death of South Bend.
I have absorbed these story lines without really paying attention or really caring too much about the outcome. I don’t see the outcome of these races having a huge impact on Hoosiers living outside of the particular municipality; though, I suppose if Peterson loses or only wins by a narrow margin, it could be detrimental to any future ambitions he might have.

A crappy Election Day beats no Election Day in my book.
Maybe I need a new hobby…

When I was in college, I went with the “insane amounts of really cheap beer” hobby. Yours is probably healthier.
Thomas says
If you’re implying that I can’t have both at the same time, I’m afraid you’re horridly mistaken.
Actually, here’s a related question: Have you ever home brewed your own beer? I am potentially going to undertake the process with a few compatriots, and I was curious as a beer guy yourself if you have ever gone down that road. I’d rather like to avoid drinking five gallons of swill because we made a simple mistake.
Parker says
You might look into starting with honey mead – much easier for a beginner, from all that I’ve heard.
Doug says
I sort of tried once, but I screwed it up. There was a kit, but somehow I messed up the CO2. I have no idea. So, I’m not a good resource on this. You might check over at the Hoosier Beer Geeks. They’re more into drinking it than brewing it, I think; but they may have some insights.

The Peterson-Ballard face-off will be very interesting. I live in Beech Grove, so I won’t be able to vote for that contest, but the ads are naturally inescapable. Peterson has had more of his “negative ad” on Ballard shown in recent days than the ad touting Peterson’s good qualities. We’ll see what happens.
Doghouse Riley says
All Peterson has to do is win. Remember that Steve Goldsmythe (don’t tell me it’s misspelled) barely beat Z. Mae Jimson for his third term, even though Jimson herself only found out she was running when she entered the voting booth, and he still wound up being handed the gubernatorial nomination. He lost, of course, but then nobody actually likes Goldsmythe. Peterson’s been (unfairly) scorched by the burning pitch of the Property Tax mob. That’s not going to hurt him in a statewide race.
