I’m not interested enough in McCain to justify back-to-back posts about him, and yet here it is. Oliver Willis has a post up about a McCain swiftboating taking place in South Carolina:
The campaign, which has vowed not to take any attacks lying down this time around, said in a statement that a group calling itself “Vietnam Veterans Against McCain†had sent out a negative mailing about Mr. McCain to South Carolina voters.
“Today, a shadowy political organization calling itself ‘Vietnam Veterans Against McCain’ launched a vicious attack on John McCain in an attempt to impugn his character in the closing days of the South Carolina Republican Primary,†Orson Swindle, who was a fellow prisoner of war in Vietnam with Mr. McCain, said in a statement put out by the campaign. “The group claims that John McCain turned his back on his fellow POWs in order to save his own skin.â€

I’m no fan of McCain, but how much can ya trust the word of a man whose name is Swindle?
Caveat lector!

Good one, Brandon!
I think it’s gonna be much harder to make such ridiculous stuff stick on McCain than Kerry.. because when McCain came back, he did not speak out against the war and “seemingly” turn his back on the vets.
But would I be surprised? NO….
BTW, nice to see the Repugs in a Kerfluffle about which guy to nominate. Can we go for FOUR? THOMPSON in SC!

John McCain is a true War Hero. I watched a TV movie Bio-Pic about him, and read many books about the vietnam war, and POW’s at the Hanoi Hilton. McCain, Admiral Stockdale, and others.
He would be a blast to go drinking with. he is a lot like the freewheeling Maverick, from Top Gun, and has the “right stuff”.
He would be a blast to go out drinking with, and in fact, John , and Hillary had a little friendly drinking contest in at a foreign policy/meeting in one of the former soviet baltic republics- latvia, i think( recall the drinking contest scene from “Indiana Jones”).
He is supported by dozens of foreign policy experts, and generals, and retired military types.
I listened to him on c-span the other night, and he stated that we- the american People are spending $400 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR to fuel our SUV’s and such. thats a lot of money that we could be spending for domestic problems. thats 400 billion that a lot goes to our enemies, and they buy weapons to kill GI’s.
Not to mention the military costs to protect our oil interests and imperial interests overseas, as well. lets call it a trillion and a half, for round numbers. How many kids went hungry? how many homless? how many sick died? how many kids could have been sent to college tuition free, to invent renewable energy to stop our energy dependence from our enemies who hate us “imperialist Infidel dogs”?
President eisenhower said something about the military industrial complex, and the economic opportunity costs of bad policy, and militarism.
what a waste of Lives that WW@ was, and its toll on our planet.
BUT JOHN MCCAIN WONT PULL OUR TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ, BUT ALSO WONT TAKE OUR GUNS AWAY. whereas across the aisle, Hillary, and Obama, and edwards allpay lip service to the 2nd amendment- hunters, sportsmen, etc( brady bunch bs) but pledge to get us out of Iraq.
John Mccain is the most pragmatic , and least Religious nutjob/most Govt/secularist candidate of the GOP.
So it really narrows the field.
I have Gravitas, and can discuss serious discourse when its important, and can also point out the absurdities and idiocy of the wingnuts.
now if you’ll excuse me, I’m of to drink some kool-aid, and have a big bowl of “Chuckabee’s”- chock full of nuts, flakes, and fruits. “part of a nutritious breakfast. giggle1

The “they’ll take our guns away” stuff gets old. I had guns under Clinton. My dad had guns under Kennedy, Johnson, and Carter, too. Admittedly, there when I bought my Bushmaster AR-15 during the “Assault Weapons Ban”, it didn’t have a flash-suppressor. That’s it. I still was able to legally buy thirty-round magazines for it.

…and without the flash-suppressor, it’s a much louder, meaner-sounding weapon anyway.

Not this again! Poor McCain was it not in South Carolina that Bush and Rove attacked him as well years ago, I lost respect for Bush and Rove back then for that attack.
It worked though.
