Gov. Daniels referred to the tax restructuring legislation that passed the General Assembly a “new era of taxpayer protection.” That’s an odd way to refer to legislation that raises sales taxes by more than 16% and likely forces local governments to raise local option income taxes. Certainly there are arguments to be made that sales and income taxes are better ways for government to pay for stuff than property taxes. But, “new era of taxpayer protection” is hyperbolic nonsense.

There is no reason for any LOIT increase. That’s up to you, the citizen and taxpayer, to stop in your local county council. Don’t put that on Mitch’s head.
We still don’t have a LOIT in Lake County. I was at Panera Bread with my family last week, and in walks my Councilman, who is one of two swing votes. I told him that I had money on him as the vote to flip to support a LOIT. He wasn’t too happy with that!
If he flips, it will be the end of his political career.
