At the risk of mindlessly jabbing other Hoosier bloggers, I wandered over to the right wing blog, Hoosier Access to see what was going on – just grabbing the first few posts:
1. Will the Obama endorsement hurt Donnelly? My answer: no. Democratic Congressman endorses Democratic Presidential nominee after the race is over — not really explosive stuff.
2. Democrats have increased a .5% tax increase on some taxpayers. Or, as Reverent & Free puts it: Democrats are figuring out how to pay for stuff. Meanwhile, referring to the right wingers: “Hopelessly adrift in failed economic policies and directionless wars, all they can do is point fingers and dishonestly criticize.”
3. Rumor about Ed Delaney stepping down and potentially being replaced by David Orentlicher. Good blog fodder, no comment.
4. Donnelly aligns with “uber liberal” Obama. Eek! Scary, scary Obama! Didn’t work in Mississippi yesterday; I don’t think anyone in IN-02 is going to panic over Obama.
5. Endorsement by Josh Gillespie Craig Dunn of Jon Costas for AG. Then, somewhat incongruously, he launches into how Mitch Daniels saved us from the smoking wreckage that was apparently Indiana from 1988 to 2004; indirectly slagging the Senate Republicans of that era.
6. Commentary on the retirement of Bob Meeks. The commentary is basically that Democrats won’t pick up the seat. More important to me is that Meeks struck me as a devoted public servant – a bit of a curmudgeon who seemed to really enjoy his job. It’s unfortunate that poor health is forcing him to step down.
So, anyway, that’s what’s going on over there.

I don’t know where Josh stands on the AG race, but that post you’re citing wasn’t an endorsement by him of Costas.
He was, if you read the post, just quoting a letter by the Howard County Republican Chairman endorsing Costas.

There was another post that pointed to Mitch Daniels giving his endorsement of Valpo’s own Jon Costas for the AG position.
I think there’s a requirement that the Indiana Attorney General comes from Northwest Indiana — it doesn’t matter if the party in power is Democratic or Republican. :)

Oops, my mistake. Fixed the Josh Gillespie reference.

Thank God! I was afraid of being washed in the Blood of the Latest Sacrificed DEM if I went over there.
BTW, did anyone see that Bush claimed he gave up golf for the troops.. because it would be unseemly to golf while they are dying. I loved Keith Olberman’s rant on TV last night. I’d love to bottle that and pour it on George’s head.

Failed economic policies? We’re in our 8th year of growth. We may or may not be in a recession, but after the latest economic revisions, it is unlikely that we are yet.
People are pissed off about gas prices and food inflation. Maybe rightfully so, maybe not. But that doesn’t mean that we have “failed economic policies”.
Failed energy policy? Yes. But as with the farm bill, our energy policy has been a bipartisan pork fest since Clinton vetoed the ANWR drilling bill way back in the 1990s.
Certainly, the ethanol boondogle is a bipartisan f-up. It is responsible to some extent for food inflation as well as energy inflation.

I expect the Obama endorsement will help Congressman Donnelly, because I also expect Senator Obama to sweep to victory in November. Oh! for the end of these long dark years of the Bush presidency.
While it’s probably reasonable to say that Obama is a bit more liberal than Donnelly, they are both intelligent, non-pandering pragmatists. They are the new Democrats we so badly need.

By the way, the Orentlicher/Delaney rumor is a complete non-starter. Delaney just can’t up and quit – to get off the ballot he’d have to move his residence outside the district, be convicted of a felony or die. Only then would there be an open ballot position for the County Chair to appoint a replacement. Orentlicher burned way too many political bridges for him to get any favors for quite some while…

Visclosky went for Obama. Finally got a chance to read the paper today.
