Sen. John Waterman, a Republican who made a furtive attempt to run for the governor’s seat as a third party on a platform of eliminating property taxes obtained only about 6% of the number of signatures he needed – 2,200 out of a necessary 32,000. I don’t know if that reflects the relative support of Hoosiers for property tax elimination or simply a luke warm feeling for Waterman as a gubernatorial candidate.

I never really understood this attempted run by Waterman. As politicians go he simply doesn’t show any skills at being one.I’ve watched him several times on PBS Meet Your Lawmakers and he usually just sits there with nothing to add to the conversation and when he is finally prodded into a statement his lack of speaking abiltity and charisma shows especially sitting beside someone like Dave Crooks and Bruce Borders.
