The Indiana Attorney General has issued an advisory opinion to the effect that state law preempts local government’s ability to adopt and enforce red light camera ordinances. An attorney general’s opinion doesn’t bind the municipalities or the courts, but it tends to have persuasive force.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of camera enforcement. I think it too quickly will become more of a method of revenue generation than a true effort to preserve law, order, and the well-being of citizens.

“Despite a distinct sympathy in favor of camera enforcement, the researchers found a “definite” increase in rear-end accidents and only a “possible” decrease in angle accidents. Most importantly, the net effect was that more injuries happened after cameras are installed.”
