Are we still playing guilt by association? I think McCain, Palin, et al. are still doing the Ayers/Wright thing. They should give up because: a) it doesn’t seem to be working; and b) their connections always seem to be nuttier and closer when it’s time to hold them up to the same standard.
Today, Murray Waas (the guy who broke the Abu Ghraib abuse stories, among other things) is reporting that the leader of McCain’s transition team was a lobbyist for Saddam “WMD/Mushroom Cloud” Hussein.
William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.
And Timmons’ association was not a Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Hussein era association. Nope. He was helping Saddam in 1992 – 1995.
Do I think this association is the reason to vote against McCain? No. I think Obama has better ideas and is more likely to clean out Bush appointees from the federal government. Timmons is probably a professional who will advance the cause of whoever pays him. As a lawyer, I can certainly respect that. But, if we’re going to play McCain’s game of hyperventilating over past associations, even tenuous ones; then McCain should take a serious hit for putting a past associate of Saddam Hussein in a position of significant authority in his campaign.

You know.. you are known by the people with whom you hang. And to that end, check your parents’ associations as well.. and use this as a guide.
