Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee indicated their desire to turn Judge Hamilton’s confirmation hearings into a political food fight by boycotting them. Hamilton has been nominated to move from his current position as a District Court Judge in the Southern District of Indiana to the 7th Circuit Court Appeals.
Senator Lugar, for his part, indicated his “enthusiastic support” for Judge Hamilton.
Some commenters on the right have made it clear they will try to score points against Judge Hamilton by misrepresenting his decision on the legislative prayer case. For an example, read this excellent evisceration by Ed Brayton of such a column by Jonathan “Son of Jerry” Falwell.

Back to the games with the judges, hunh? Same old same old, Repukes. Wait till 2010.
It’ll take decades to get all their corporate puppets off the Federal bench, though. That’s their real litmus test.
Here’s some other blogs that deserve your support in fighting this kind of thing, folks.

Actually the Republicans have a legitimate gripe. The D’s were trying to rush Judge Hamilton’s nomination through in a matter of days. Judge Hamilton has about a 14 year history on the bench and has written thousands of opinions. The records requested pursuant to his nomination haven’t even all been provided. The R’s asked for more time to get that information and review it. The D’s said “no” and that’s when the R’s boycotted the hearing. So you’re not being quite fair in your summary of what happened. The R’s have a legitimate beef with how the nonimnation has been rushed through.
