SB 25 – Firearms in locked vehicles. Passed 41-9. Prohibits a person from enforcing a rule prohibiting an employee (including a contract employee) from legally possessing a firearm that is locked in the employee’s vehicle while the vehicle is in or on the person’s property. If they’re going to do this, I’d suggest another provision granting immunity to an employer from any harm caused by firearms used on the employer’s property.
SB 31 – Motorcycle handlebar height. Passed 38-10. Provides that motorcycle handlebars may not rise higher than the shoulders of the driver when the driver is seated in the driver’s seat. (Current law provides that the handlebars may not rise more than 15 inches above the driver’s seat.) What does the General Assembly have against ape hangers?
SB 59 – Grandparent and great grandparent visitation. Passed 44-6. This gives rights to great-grandparents and additional rights to grandparents to seek visitation when the domestic situation changes.

SB 25 – I work in gov’t regulation in the employment industry and deal with a lot of whack-jobs. This bill sucks and puts people in more immediate danger than is necessary. Have these legislatures ever spoken to one of these crazy people within the first few minutes of being fired/laidoff? They’re often pretty pissed. And, I wonder why one’s license to carry trumps another’s property rights?

They’re banning ape hangers? Do some people just show up and say “Oh, yeah, I don’t like the way those look” and vote YES? Any consideration about if a law is really needed?

The ABATE folks have a pretty good lobbying operation. Usually legislators seem a little reluctant to ruffle their feathers without good reason. I wonder if they support the bill, are indifferent, or if their preferences are being ignored for some reason.

I always figured the elevation of the arms plus the vibrations would make the rider’s hands go numb. Add in the number of ape-hanger lovers who smoke, and that risk of numbness goes up even more.
There’s a biker I see here in town who has to extend his arms straight out at what looks like a 45 degree angle to reach the grips. It just looks ridiculously impractical. I’m sure if I cut a sun roof on my Prius and stuck the steering wheel on the roof, people would have issues with it.

T, I have no idea, I don’t even ride a motorcycle. However, it sounds like neither of us know, and I have never heard of any problem that they have caused that has been proven.
Just one of those solutions looking for a problem.

An update: SB 59 was defeated on 3rd reading in the IN House, 46-53, on February 25th. The more the legislators learned about the bill, the more they realized its flaws.
