Allen County may withhold juvenile detention fees

Following the Marion County suit against the state regarding the constitutionality of charging counties for detaining juveniles, Allen County may withhold $8 million state debt.

Allen County Council President Darren Vogt, said he believes the county should hold on to its money while Marion County contests the debt in court. Bob Scott, Noble County Council president, said although he supported Peterson’s efforts, he doesn’t believe the county will stop making its payments. “We offered them a (repayment) plan,” he said. “I think we should keep our word.”
