Tim Brouk, writing for the Lafayette Journal & Courier, is reporting that Richard Mourdock announced that he will run against Sen. Lugar in the Republican primary.
I posted on this recently, so I’ll just offer my opinion that I don’t think Sen. Lugar is any less conservative than he ever was; the Republican Party has been the one moving. (Also, I don’t think “conservative” is a great descriptor any more than “liberal” is. So, when I say more and less “conservative,” I’m not sure I mean anything other than “more and less aligned with active Republican primary voters.”)

Well, so the other shoe has dropped. And now what?
I was at Third House (sponsored by the Chamber) on Saturday morning and Sheila Klinker announced jokingly a group of Democrats for Lugar – even mentioned she’d voted for him a couple times. I leaned over to Rep. Truitt and whispered, “That probably sealed the deal for him.” LOL.

I keep meaning to sign up for Third House, then never do.

While I believe there is some value in reviewing whether we should elect lugar to another term, the reasoning being used by the tea party just highlights their inability to comprehend the real world. The small government, don’t spend money, except for war and violating the rights of people who are “different” isn’t a platform I can get behind. I don’t need the small-minded and easily manipulated having that much control of my life.
And, yes, I say the same thing about dogmatic ideologue people on the left.

Long way to go until voting time–primary and general election but a few personal thoughts none the less: As a older retired person honestly have to say two points I ponder: appreciate older persons continuing to serve AND wonder about quality and quantity of the service as people pass beyond mid seventies–just a fact based on personal experiences and many observations; Lugar has served well (and I am generally a democrat voter) and I have voted for him several time; Mourdock does not presently have a favorable status (for me); hopefully democrats will field qualified candidates if Mourdock is R nominee (presently view as unlikely, but–); If Lugar is nominee the age factor will have to be factored in to decision on voting. Now suppose will be attacked for age biasis
Doug says
I don’t think it’s an age bias if you give him a fair shake by taking a look to see if age is actually taking its toll. Certainly it’s no secret that age increases the potential for an individual’s decline. But, the decline can happen much earlier or – particularly in terms of mental faculties – not as long as they’re alive.

I believe each member of Congress has a staff that holds things together more than we are aware of, no matter the age of the legislator, so there would be some compensation for the aging factor as long as the staff is competent and has intimate knowledge of the philosophy of the office-holder. Not to say that a doddering idiot should be kept in office, although I’m sure some have been, but we are not talking about that type of person.

If people are gonna keep electing idiots, what’s doddering got to do with it?
(That’s not to say I think Lugar is an idiot. I don’t. I think he’s a Egil “Bud” Krogh Nixonian, and I’d as soon have an idiot, who might get voted out at sometime in a normal human lifespan, rather than spend forty years on Hoosier taxpayers’ dime polishing his own image. Glad to see the Teabaggers want to give me the choice.)

They generally get touchy when you call them teabaggers.. although they liked it in the beginning. I guess one of them learned how to go the “google” and found it has an unsavory reputation.
