Reports are still muddled, but there has been a shooting at Martinsville West Middle School that happened early this morning. A student or maybe recently expelled student is in custody. The reports I’ve seen indicated uncertainty as to whether the victim was a student or a member of the staff.

I heard “student”.

It’s wrong, but I’m already bracing for the volley of “this supports my position for/against gun control” arguments.
Pam says
I went to that middle school. And sadly, you’re right on the volley of pro/anti-gun control arguments.
Jason says
I’m usually involved in the pro/anti gun debates, but I really can’t see where it applies here. I’m pretty sure middle school kids carrying pistols is illegal, and I don’t see anyone trying to change that law or suggest more kids should be bringing guns to school for protection.
Everything I’ve heard so far is that one kid wanted to kill another one. Pretty sure that’s a problem we’ve been dealing with on this planet for at least 10,000 years or so (much longer, depending on your faith position).

I always wonder if bullying was involved when these things occur. Tragically, as I understand some of such instances, it seems the original victim becomes a perpetrator and the original perpetrator becomes a victim. What’s the way out for these kids?
