HB 1295 would provide sales tax exemptions to farmers for components of drainage systems or for equipment used to install, repair, or maintain farm drainage systems; “farm drainage systems” being “a system of drainage tubing, drainage tiles, and related control systems designed to facilitate the drainage of agricultural land.”

A giveaway to ag. I appreciate that State Reps Heaton, Cherry, and Gutwein recognize that the sales tax can be a disincentive to purchase drainage- which is expensive, and which results in better yields per acre, but I’d rather like to see that recognition spread across the entire state economy and the tax lowered or repealed, without certain winners being chosen on the basis of being voting blocs within one’s district.
Yes, I get the certain futility of my preferences.
