One of the bits in this Courier Press story on Representative Hostettler’s decision not to go view the tornado damage to his District in southwestern Indiana mentions Kos’s blog post calling Hostettler “Mr. Hypocrisy”.
Hostettler’s spokesperson, Matthew Faraci said:
Faraci said the term “Mr. Hypocrisy,” used by a liberal blogger this week in reference to Hostettler, was unfair. “Just because he did not support a specific FEMA bill does not mean he does not support FEMA coming in and giving relief. He is very supportive of FEMA.”
Frankly, I’m having difficulty parsing this next paragraph, but as to Hostettler’s support for FEMA, the article says:
Hostettler has not always been a fan of FEMA. In June 2001, he voted against restoring cuts to the agency. And more recently, he was one of 11 votes against a $50 billion appropriation for aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Viewing things charitably, Hostettler could be genuine in his desire to stay out of the way in the tornado damaged area, not wanting to rush to the camera for a worthless photo-op. And his vote against Katrina relief could have more to do with his concern over lack of fiscal controls than opposition to Katrina relief generally.
Generally, however, I’m not inclined to view Hostettler charitably because of his opposition to ‘divorce on demand’, and because he thinks people should get a tax credit for a miscarriage and because he believes that Democrats can’t help themselves from demonizing and denigrating Christians and because he is willing to defund the U.S. Marshal’s office to prevent it from enforcing a federal court order.
