Mark Souder made a splash in the news today. The Associated Press is reporting on Rep. Souder’s letter to the USDOT (pdf) opposing a split between Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties. Rep. Souder represents Indiana’s Third District. Ironically, if you look at the map of the Third District, it runs almost exactly down the proposed time line, which sort of calls into question how “highly integrated” the areas are. If you can split a federal Congressional District down that line, why not a time zone? In any event, Souder does not represent St. Joseph County but he’s comfortable telling St. Joseph County what it should do.
Perhaps Mr. Souder is concerned that a time rift will screw up his television schedule. The Indy Star ran an editorial today entitled, Guess who pays for fancy TVs? Turns out the Congressman has a swanky $6,000 42-inch plasma screen TV in his office bought on the taxpayer’s dime. Lots and lots of dimes.
