One of the men most responsible for the Allies winning World War II was tortured and pushed to suicide because he was gay. Alan Turing was a leader of the effort that cracked German cryptography.
How was this heroism rewarded? When he was convicted for “gross indecency” for having sex with a man, he was chemically castrated. He committed suicide two years later at the age of 41; less than a decade after the conclusion of the war he helped win.
Sixty years later, he has been given a pardon. There was no need for his conviction, chemical castration, or suicide. The sooner we, as a civilization, get rid of our self-imposed, cultural aversion to gay people; the better. It has caused real suffering.

Amen! Opps your a atheist and an agnostic I guess I over stepped my bounds! ;)
Sometimes just being different from another person causes pain and suffering. If we teach our kids to celebrate those differences then the world will be a better place! I teach mine that everyday! Opps better stop now or I will break out in song… ;)

A timely reminder of the damage and heartache caused by people who need to feel superior to others, and who see difference as a threat.

Pardons? No, thank you.
“We, your gracious masters, hereby forgive you for your wrongdoing.”
Fuck that shit.
It’s the government that convicted him that needs a pardon. Turing didn’t do anything requiring forgiveness in the first place.

And such a waste of a brilliant mind (no intended movie reference).
