I have no problem with the French and am not particularly a bellicose American. But, I love my country and trash talkers drive me up the wall. So, the Americans beating the French in the 400 meter freestyle relay is a great story. French swimmer, Alain Bernard had claimed that his team would “smash” the Americans. It looked like they were about to do just that when Jason Lezak trailed Bernard by a body length going into the last 50 meters. Lezak closed the gap to just barely pass Bernard on the final stroke. Awesome.
What a memorable race!
Lezak used Bernard’s wave to gain a little advantage and then blew by him at the last possible instant. Brilliant.
My two oldest boys were up watching it with me last night. I told them this is what the Olympics are all about!
