I think this would be the perfect opportunity for John McCain to go to Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Bush and “Heckuva Job” Brownie to recount one of Reagan’s quips: “The most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
It’d really secure his conservative bona fides and his commitment to the legacy of Reagan. And, I’m sure the people of Cedar Rapids could use a humorous pick-me-up at the moment.

They don’t need a pick-me-up. They’re picking themselves up just nicely.
What a contrast to New Orleans.

What a difference indeed.
Square blocks vs. square miles.
24,417 population vs. 275,000
1,912.6/sq mi density vs. 2,518/sq mi
Etc.

Isn’t it ironic that the Bush administration has done more to discredit big government than all the so-called liberal democratic ‘social welfare’type governments starting with FDR? ‘Liberal-socialist Obama’ is seen as closer to the people, and more likely to give americans an honest deal, myself included, than Bush’s promised, but failed government somehow combining religion, national security and private ownership. It will be interesting to analyze in coming years just how badly failed these last 8 years have been, and why did we allow it to happen?
And isn’t it weird how the more the private sector gets involved, the bigger government seems?

History is sadly full of examples of terrible things brought about by big governments – and I suspect there are several chapters in that book yet to be written…
On a lighter note, I read (on the internet, so usual warnings apply) an interesting question and answer:
Media person: “Do you thing Congress should continue to provide funding for NPR?”
Citizen: “I guess so – otherwise the taxpayers will wind up paying for that, too.”
As Scott Adams would have us add: ‘and then he voted.’
k says
Most of NPR’s funding comes from non-governmental sources, Parker.
You can read that on the Internet as well.

Most of NPR’s funding comes from non-governmental sources, Parker.
Why not make it 100% non-government funded?
I prefer XMPR. Bob Edwards is still interviewing away.

BTW, why is it that McCain’s people seem incapable of using the Internets? I mean.. can’t they find the things before they come out. his inconsistencies for one..?
