Mary Beth Schneider, writing for the Indianapolis Star has an article entitled Debate over time zones goes on. While otherwise excellent, it has a quote from Robert Johnson of the United States Dept. of Transportation that appears to be inaccurate.
The department did not adopt the process Daniels had suggested, Johnson said, “because we have a process.”
That process requires counties or local governments to make a specific request if they want to be moved to a time zone.
According to the USDOT’s time zone procedure a request by the Governor or the State Legislature is permissible for time zone requests involving any part of the state. So, it’s simply wrong to say that the process requires counties or local governments to make a specific request.
