This post at DailyKos made me ponder Dick Cheney for a few moments. Just letting you know the trigger-point for this post, I’m not saying it really told me anything new or which I didn’t suspect. But, when this administration is reviewed in its entirety sometime decades hence, I think we’ll find that there was widespread disregard for the niceties of the law — be it with respect to proper use of classified materials, observance of due process, compliance with open door laws, observance of civil service laws, observance of campaign finance laws, observance of election laws, observance of the laws against torture, and other niggling details. I further think that we’ll find that George W. Bush didn’t really know what was going on, didn’t really know what the law was, and didn’t really care about either too much. I think we’ll find that Cheney knew exactly what was going on, knew exactly what the law was, and didn’t really care about either too much. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

You already have heard this joke. “What would happen if Dick Cheney died? Bush would become President.”

Oh, GWB knows what’s going on – he’s just so sure that he’s right that he cannot imagine that failure is impossible. There’s no one who can stop him, not even Congress.

You really think impeachment is impossible?
(I mean, leaving out that fact that the Democrats don’t seem all that concerned with making sure the Executive Branch follows the rules of the land.)

I agree with everything but that Bush is playing Sergeant Schultz. I agree with Lemming and would also say that Cheney lets Bush appear detached from all these shenanigans.

I believe you folks are being way too hard on Bush. Look at Jimmy Carter, a do-nothing president that was completely ineffective when he was president. Roll forward 30 years and he suddenly becomes a “statesman”. Roll forward another few years and he is starting to viewed as a nutcase with his support of Chavez/Castro. Never can tell, in the future Bush may emerge as one of the most effective presidents of all time.

Re: Carter…even if he was “ineffectual” & a “do-nothing,” that beats doing disastrous things repeatedly, like the current prez. It’s not always better to do something than do nothing, if what you’re doing sucks royally.
