The “new” Chrysler, which Richard Mourdock spent $2 million of Indiana’s money opposing, is adding 1,100 new jobs.
No real point to this post other than it’s an opportunity for me to reiterate how bad I think Mourdock’s decision to challenge the bankruptcy work out was.

How many jobs would Ford and Toyota and Honda be creating in the US if GM and Chrysler were dead and gone?
In case you haven’t noticed, Toyota and Honda are kind of off their game since the bailout. Is that fair? Both companies produce more vehicles in Indiana than Chrysler and GM do.

Buzzcut – could it possibly be that Toyota has a supply chain issue with the Fukishima nuclear reactor issue? I mean, that’s why they slipped behind VW as the world’s most productive car company this year. They slipped to second. And I think we’re already doing pretty well here in Lafayette with Subaru building the Toyota Camrys. But imagine Indiana with the cities of Anderson, Muncie, New Castle and more even more devastated due to the loss of GM and Chrysler. Or imagine Michigan with 30-80K unemployed more..

I think that if you look at the new Camry or the new Civic, you can see that Toyota and Honda are having issues competing. They had to skimp on development of new models. This is exactly what happened at the “Big 3” in response to Japanese competition way back when.
