Blog activity was slow today because I went down to Indy for a CLE on estates. I will say this — apparently estate practice is not a young man’s game. I’d put the average age of the attendees of that seminar at about 65.

We were apparently at the same CLE course. I thought it was an unusually overweight crowd for a group of attorneys as much as it was old.

Might have been an excellent place to prospect for estate clients. (Then again, just as doctors make bad patients, I think lawyers make bad clients.)

Oh, and it’s probably a sign I’m too sensitized to politics, but my hackles went up when one of the speakers referred to estate taxes as “death taxes.” To me, it was like he was flashing Republican gang signs. He might as well have been using “Democrat” as an adjective.

I liked the old guy sitting next to me who tried to answer every jeopardy question, but got about half of the answers wrong. He’d been practicing for more than 40 years! Yeah–I want an estate attorney who gets it right half the time.
