The Once & Future Senator, Dan Coats, filed his long awaited financial disclosures today. Actually, I shouldn’t bash him specifically – 80% of the primary field decided that federal election laws are more of what you might call “guidelines.” These disclosures were supposed to have been filed by April 4.
Former Sen. Dan Coats was paid $821,887 from January of 2009 through the first few months of this year for lobbying and other jobs, according to his financial disclosure statement filed today.
Dollar Dan is apparently worth about $2.5 million – which, as Senators go, is pretty run of the mill, I think.
Roger Bennett says
He’s making $600,000 or so per year and has a net worth of only $2.5 million? Has this old Wheaton College man gone yuppie jetsetter, or is he a heavy charitable hitter?
Doug says
I was wondering about that too.
Craig says
I’m guessing blackjack and blow. Oh wait, he’s a Republican, make that baccarat.
Dave says
“…worth about $2.5 million – which, as Senators go, is pretty run of the mill…”
That is such a sad statement. If anything was a good hot thermometer of a sick republic, that’s it.
Dave says
Actually, this gives me a good thought: we should pass a constitutional amendment that says that any person wanting to be able to take office in the Legislative and Executive branches must serve out a mandatory 6 months within two years before the election of living at the poverty line. If they have family, that means their immediate family too. Call it the “Fairness Doctrine” which not only offsets the massive amount of lobbyist money they make AFTER their time in office, but also puts them in touch with the common people before they go pass a bunch of laws to buy new bombers.
Paul says
If we institute Dave’s suggestion, we should film it, with all profits going towards the national debt. I would watch that show.
Mike Kole says
If we institute Dave’s suggestion, about 80% of Congress, both parties, would have been subject to it. Could be fun reality TV.
