Mary Beth Schneider has an article in the Indy Star on the Democrats’ efforts to retake control of the state House of Representatives. Time & the Toll Road are two major themes of that effort. In particular, Troy “I’ll Never Vote for It” Woodruff is in jeopardy.
Two years ago, the Vincennes resident’s vote for Republican Troy A. Woodruff helped him eke out a victory over the Democratic incumbent state representative by fewer than 200 votes.
But the 70-year-old Barnes said she won’t do that again. Woodruff switched his vote in 2005 to put Indiana on daylight-saving time. She said that’s all she needs to know.
When Woodruff’s Democratic challenger, Kreg Battles, showed up at her doorstep last week asking if she had any questions about his candidacy, she said:
“No, because I’m going to vote for you. You’d do as well or better as the one we have now.”
. . .
At the Mouzin Barber Shop in Vincennes, a state map on the wall is marked with the time zones to help customers. Nearby Illinois is on Central Time, and the adoption of daylight-saving time is changing all the rules residents have used to tell time, whether they’re in Indiana or Illinois.Barber Larry Mouzin, asked whom he will support for state representative said bluntly: “Not Woodruff.”
“He said he wouldn’t vote for it. Then, whammo!” Mouzin said.
The article goes on to discuss the fact that immigration is also on people’s minds, but that the issue cuts both ways for the political parties. For example, Republican Don Eaton doesn’t think Republicans in Washington have done enough to secure the border and he doesn’t like handing over the Indiana Toll Road to foreign management. When asked about his views on Daniels, Eaton said, “How much time do you have?”
Eaton intends to vote for Dave Crooks, a Democrat who vigorously opposed the time change and the Toll Road privatization in Republican dominated Daviess County; and apparently a great number of others intend to vote for him as well.
Republicans have targeted Crooks, a Democrat in Republican-dominated Daviess County, who aggressively opposed the time change and the Toll Road lease. But there are hundreds of Crooks yard signs in the district, and it’s difficult to find one for his Republican opponent, local economic development official Ron Arnold.
While Crooks was out campaigning last week, Arnold was on vacation.

Look for the issue of the state ie Governor looking at mining coal in our are state and wildlife park (Glendale) to quickly become a issue in Daviess,Martin and Dubois counties. No one even knew they were doing exploratory drilling until the local Washimgton Times Hearld published a story on it Saturday.
This is a rural are with many hunters, fisherman, and campers who love Glendale and will not want to see mining there.A petition has already been started.I told everyone earlier both Republicans and Democrats in Southwest Indiana hate this Governor.Ron Arnold Crooks challenger and the incumbent Troy Woodruff have no chance of being elected around here. Believe me!It`s over.

I see that in the true fashion of our system of government, the residents of the area will be given a chance to speak up about this issue next week. Amazing, the system works if you work the system.
“No one even knew about the exploratory drilling…et al”?
As an observant citizen I might notice if I were one of the many hunters, fisherman, or campers using the Glendale area if “20 to 35 holes at a depth of 130 to 180 feet” (Washington Times Herald) were being dug in my well-used wildlife area. That takes some warm bodies and some equipment. SOMEBODY knew. You maybe didn’t, but to say “no one” knew is a little extreme.
I’d venture a guess that this sort of thing goes on all the time, especially in our part of the state. I wouldn’t get my panties in a bunch just yet. It was EXPLORATORY drilling. It could end up being a non issue. If it is an issue, again, speak up. That’s your birth right living in a DEMOCRACY.
Gosh, I’m still amazed at how the system actually works if people GET INVOLVED. It is when people get so bullheaded and indicate they are only voting for a Democrat or Republican no matter what and don’t educate themselves on the actual issues that the system begins to crumble.
It is true there are Democrats and Republicans who are unhappy with the Guv; however, please don’t speak for every voter unless you’ve actually spoken to EVERY voter. If you have, dude, I’ve got some questions for you! :-)
I can’t speak about Mr. Arnold as I don’t know much about him. But, I, for one, think it would be a travesty to elect someone other than Mr. Woodruff for District 64. If you look at what he’s done for SW Indiana in the last two years you’ll see his record far outshines any previous District 64 seatholder. That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it.
Additionally, please don’t be offended but if you would proofread your posts before submitting, your point may have been a little clearer.

bp,
The people I talk to hate the Governor period!I am a issue voter and vote for Democrats as well as Republicans depending on their position on the issues. In the latest poll on Mitch the liar he only polls well in the INDY area he is detested in the northern and southern part of the state!Toll road and DST.
Troy Woodruff lied to his constituents about DST as has been reported on this blog.Visit this blog again November 8 and we`ll talk about the land slide defeat of your friend Mr.Woodruff who after casting the deciding vote for DST managed to secure a unadvertised $42,000 a year state job for his wife at the Vincennes District on hwy 41.Payback for his DST vote!He won by less than 200 votes last time this time he will be defeated easily. So come on back November 8th and we`ll see who was right!!!
Now I do not vote in district 64 but speak to many who do especially in Vincennes and I never hear a good word about Mr.Woodruff.
Mr.Arnold will also be defeated easily in district 63 where I vote and the Democrats will take control of the Indiana House.People including many Republicans in Daviess county a very Republican county love Crooks.Signs are everywhere and as the Indianapolis Star article stated you have to look long and hard for a Ron Arnold sign.

Folks, I’m all for a diversity of opinion here, but please try to keep the trash talking to a minimum.

I regret if I spoke trash Doug. My sincere apologies if anyone was offended by anything I said. I think the very fact that I support a Republican is cause for some here to be offended. Oopsie.
If voters choose not to give Woodruff another two years over that one thing, I think that’s pretty sad. It obviously shows that other than you, many of the people ’round those parts don’t choose to look at what’s been done for the district.
It would be a sad day in American government when people would put someone in a representatives chair who has shown that he doesn’t have any idea how government works and doesn’t know what really went on outside his little world prior to the last two years. But, alas, it could happen. (shrug)
I can’t predict the future as well as the other posters on this board, but if election night comes without a W in the column, I won’t lose as much sleep or be as sad as you think. I’m not that invested.
It has been fun today. Have a pleasant evening.

Sorry but the way I was raised, you don’t reward any elected official who misleads you. I considered DST a minor issue personally and could’ve cared less which way the vote went.
The problem I have with Woodruff(other than he thinks he can legislate the way I think, feel, and believe just like most other extreme right legislators)is that I received his newsletter stating that he would not vote for DST and then DID just about 2 weeks later. From that point on everything he did or said was tainted by that one little mis-step. I will not ever support a legislator who promises one thing and delivers the opposite. That is part of the reason I stepped up to run against Troy on the Libertarian ticket. Am I a great politician? No. Am I extremely successful in my endeavors? probably not. Am I one of the great political thinkers of our time? definitely not! What I am is honest and I care about individual rights more than the “needs of government. I am the average guy, I work in a factory (by choice, not by qualification), I have a wife and 3 kids, and I’m sick of “professional politicians” getting away with trampling on everyone else.
My point is this….I don’t care who you vote for just vote for someone honest.
