I dreamed I saw Joe Hill Last Night.
I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night,
Alive as you or me
Says I, “But Joe, you’re ten years dead,”
“I never died,” says he
“I never died,” says he
“In Salt Lake, Joe,” says I to him,
Him standing by my bed,
“They framed you on a murder charge,”
Says Joe, “But I ain’t dead,”
Says Joe, “But I ain’t dead.”
“The copper bosses killed you, Joe,
They shot you, Joe,” says I.
“Takes more than guns to kill a man,”
Says Joe, “I didn’t die,”
Says Joe, “I didn’t die.”
And standing there as big as life
And smiling with his eyes
Joe says, “What they forgot to kill
Went on to organize,
Went on to organize.”
“Joe Hill ain’t dead,” he says to me,
“Joe Hill ain’t never died.
Where working men are out on strike
Joe Hill is at their side,
Joe Hill is at their side.”
“From San Diego up to Maine,
In every mine and mill,
Where workers strike and organize,”
Says he, “You’ll find Joe Hill,”
Says he, “You’ll find Joe Hill.”
I dreamed I saw Joe Hill last night,
Alive as you or me
Says I, “But Joe, you’re ten years dead,”
“I never died,” says he
“I never died,” says he
Desmoinesdem, writing at MyDD, gives an account of stark differences between McCain’s field offices and those of Obama. The McCain offices were pretty lethargic with maybe one person making phone calls and the others kind of standing around talking about how they didn’t like Obama.
You could take every McCain volunteer we’ve seen doing actual work in the entire trip, over six states, and it would add up to the same as Obama’s single Thornton, CO office. Or his single Durango, CO office. These ground campaigns bear no relationship to each other.

I have a friend who makes calls for Obama’s campaign. Mind you these are get-out-the-vote calls made to Democratic voters. She reports that a disturbing number rudely tell her that they are not going to vote for a black – frequently in cruder language. This country may be facing the most difficult time since the Civil War. It will be more than ironic if the country’s original sin returns to ruin it finally.

I work the phones for the Obama office in Fishers and I had a 93 year old female tell me to GO TO HELL! I was shocked.
I would say that the majority of McCain supporters have been polite.
As for the numbers, when I started calling during lunch in August there were 2-4 callers, now there are 10-15 callers.

I’ve done some canvassing for Obama. One old guy asked who I was representing, then said, “Good BYE!” when I told him.
Another older woman said she can’t vote for Obama because he’s “Too slick.”
At the third elderly-occupied house I went to, the caregiver (whose back was to me, in the next room) heard my knock at the door, glanced momentarily, and then ignored my knock to resume playing his pornographic computer game.
I was pleasantly surprised that the guy with the blackface lawn jockey is pretty excited to vote for Obama.

By the way, your exerpt is from Sean at fivethirtyeight.com. He was relating that he had been giving the McCain campaign the benefit of the doubt when they kept saying they were busy and doing work. Then they denied him acccess to their offices, so he unleashed a rant about how basically none of their field offices are doing much of anything and they are getting smoked by Obama’s team. It was a pretty informative posting.
