Lots of municipal elections out there today. Blue Indiana is going to try to keep track.
The first election result that caught my eye was Frankfort where Independent Chris Pippenger has defeated the Republican and Democratic candidates.
Feel free to comment from your neck of the woods.

I find it absurd that to record that I voted I need a piece of paper, either the postcard mailed to me or a printed sheet at the voting center.
I purposefully did not take the card to see what happened. A 5 or 10 minute delay in the Battle Ground center in my case, at about 9am.
I find it ridiculous that a piece of paper is required to track that I voted but my actual vote doesn’t get that luxury of such a permanent and verifiable record of my ballot.
I’m not too happy with having to have ID either.
So, in fact I needed 2 items to vote.
As an IT worker I do not want computers involved in the election process. They would be fine to display the ballot and print out a hard copy that is the valid ballot but that’s it.
I prefer precinct voting.
Enought ranting.

Hey, they were Diebold machines. What could go wrong? Oh right.

Up here in Democratic Lake County we actually had a number of Republicans elected. Both Griffith and Schererville town councils are Republican-controlled for the first time in forty years. Griffith’s win is due to the fact that the Republicans have promised to pull Griffith out of Calumet Township-the same township that encompasses Gary. One of the incumbents who lost in Schererville has a day job that I always thought was a conflict of interest. He is the paid town manager of St. John! (Both towns are growing rapidly, and competing for many of the same stores, etc.) Good riddance, Steve Kil!

I’ll provide the disclaimer that I don’t know anything concrete at all about the Region and its politics. But, the sense I get is that the Democratic machinery up there is deeply corrupt. So, maybe the governments up there could do with a bit of fresh air.

You are correct, sir! At least the smaller communities want a change. I did see that Hammond re-elected their Democratic mayor-as did Gary (and this man has corruption written all over him). Didn’t see what happened in East Chicago yet. But at least this is a start.
