The Associated Press is reporting that one of Richmond’s former mayors, Byron Klute, has passed away. He was a history and government teacher who took the office of mayor just before the 1968 explosion in downtown Richmond. He was re-elected in ’71 and then took a position with Senator Birch Bayh.
I remember Byron and Elsie Klute as members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Seems like he was always one of the head ushers. Sorry to hear about his death.
