Joh Padgett has a thoughtful post entitled When Geeks Go Bad. He is responding to Ruth Holladay who commented on a Wired story about Hans Reiser, a geek who murdered his wife.
Personally, I earn a respectable 36.29% (Major Geek) on the “Geek Test.” I think that puts me more at the “social adversity has made me stronger” end of the spectrum and less at the “nice boy, didn’t talk much” end.

I score at the high end of “Geekish Tendencies” but not quite to “Geek.” I feel a bit disappointed in myself, really.

Ok, I’m an IT Consultant by day, and an avid reader of Sci-Fi and Fantasy by night (and a female to boot which gives me five extra check boxes)… and I still only rated 27.0217% (Total Geek).
I’m shocked! Shocked, I say.

I’m with Brenda. I’m a scientist, and I only scored 26.23274%. Doug must have some chainmail in his house somewhere to boost his score. (I mean, come on! He even truncated his score to only two decimal places. How ungeeky is that?)
Doug says
No chain mail, but there was some D&D in my past. I think the sci-fi/fantasy books, movies, TV shows along with my MUDding and the like got me some points. Having a computer early on and still having my Atari 2600 probably don’t hurt.
