The Indiana Barrister has the text of furlough letters sent to state employees by Gov. Daniels. The man just can’t help himself.
According to the letters, he is blameless. In fact, if anything, he went too far in trying to assist the General Assembly in passing a budget. His magnanimous concessions in this regard were “foolhardy.” State employees should make clear in their voice mails and e-mail responses that it is the General Assembly’s failure (not the Governor’s) that the government shut down. Rather than simply advising that the state employee’s office is closed until a budget is passed, the employees are directed to specify that the offices are closed “due to the failure of The Indiana General Assembly.” This seems like kind of a dick move. So, does this tie his hands on a veto – since that would mean the General Assembly did, in fact, pass a budget?
Hoosier 1 says
Hm, are you just now deciding that the little general is a dick?
Liz says
No, he can still veto – My B@#*%h Mitch can spin anything in his mind to be the fault of the General Assembly and not himself. Oh, and he has always reminded me of a weasel. Just for the record.
Chris says
So Mitch intends on using state voicemails etc for what is essentially a political campaign.
What a douche.
Jim says
Well, Mitch always has had great “time”ing. Interesting he is never “Central” to the issue.
Sorry Doug I simply could not help myself. I promise to look toward “Eastern” views and repent.
Mary says
“Indiana state government is closed indefinitely because the Indiana General Assembly failed to pass a budget by June 30. I am out of the office and will not be responding to e-mail while this shutdown is in effect. I will return when a budget is passed.”
I did get this exact message Tuesday night. Quote marks and all.

Given that probably 90% of these jobs have no moral right to exist anyway, I don’t see how shutting them down is a bad thing…

“Moral Right”
Did the Pope come out against state government jobs and I missed it?

I’m back in Ilinois and you Hoosiers are lucky to be next door to Illinois so you can enjoy your nearly-perfect-by-default state government.
‘Moral government’ is a scary concept and one to avoid ..Iran comes immediately to mind. I’d chose constitutional over moral government every time.
