Rep. Lehe has introduced HB 1107 which provides for State Fair board officer elections to be conducted by secret ballot. I confess to not knowing much about the State Fair operation, but as I read IC 15-13-5, the board consists of 17 members: the governor, the director of the state department of agriculture, the director of the Purdue Extension service, seven governor appointees, and seven members elected from each of the districts set out by IC 15-13-1-10.
The presiding officer of the board is required to be one of the seven elected members. This legislation requires that the election be by secret ballot. I have to think that there is a pretty good story underlying the legislation.
