House Bill 1299 – Senior fishing licenses. Rep. Bischoff.
Currently, Indiana citizens who are at least 65 years old are exempt from the requirement that they have a fishing license and that they have a trout-salmon stamp when taking trout or salmon. The proposed legislation would change that to individuals born before April 1, 1943. So, people who currently have the exemption would keep it, but if you will turn 65 on April 1, 2008, you’re out of luck. In the future, however, seniors would be able to buy an annual fishing license for $3 and a “fish for life” license for $17.
Passed 96 to 0.
Are we awash in elderly fishing such that we have to make them pay their $3 per year?

It’s out of concern – they want to make sure the elderly don’t get scrod…at least not for free!
Branden Robinson says
Maybe they’re afraid the retiring Boomers will destroy Indiana’s fisheries?

I knew Rep. Bischoff personally when I was a teenager growing up in southern Indiana. As I recall, he is very close to that particular cutoff. I wonder which side of it he falls on?

You young whippersnappers need to understand that we old geezers barely remember our names. Probably can’t find our way home with a navigation aid. We might even forget to bait our hooks (That is if we even remember to tie a hook on our lines). Not to worry, we probably won’t be taking too many fish. Also, we will feel sorry for the poor little critters and release most of them. We are just out to have some fun, and we are too old to chase women.
Have a good day, and get out of my way youngster!
