Mary Beth Schneider, writing for the Indianapolis Star, has an article reporting on Gov. Daniels statements to the effect that the House should pull back on SB 590, the Senate’s version of an Arizona style immigration law.
Gov. Daniels cautions against an “emotionally satisfying” bill that is impractical. Daniels is apparently recommending an approach that puts less of a burden on local law enforcement but still targets employers that knowingly employ immigrants who are in the country illegally. That sounds good, as far as it goes, but the devil is alway in the details. Given his history, you have to think that Gov. Daniels is aligned with the big business wing of his party which is at odds with the nativist element in his party on this issue. The nativists know they’re getting screwed economically and immigrants are convenient targets of that sort of discontent; preferably illegal immigrants – but that sort of discontent isn’t generally known for precision targeting. Big business makes more money if it pays its workers less.

This is why we need the Delph law. If you’re arrested for ANY OFFENSE WHATSOEVER and cannot prove your identity (such as not being able to produce a driver’s license), law enforcement needs to investigate your background and determine if you are here legally. If you are not, you should be deported after you serve your sentence.
It’s pretty much that simple. It is not a “burden” on local governments, it is just having them do what they should be doing already.

While we’re at it, if you’re arrested for any offense at all, we can require law enforcement to verify that you have auto insurance in force, that your voter registration is accurate, that your taxes are paid, that you have health insurance in force (once the personal mandate goes into effect), that you’re not improperly claiming a homestead deduction, and probably loads of other things.

COMING TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU..?
Every State that doesn’t invest in the constraint of illegal immigration enforcement, is going to be invaded across their state borders. In the frontier state of Arizona that is battling the Dept of InJustice, the Liberal Court system, the open border crackpots as they try save the State from economic collapse, because foreign nationals stealing jobs, stealing entitlement and literary paying nothing into the State coffers. It been proven beyond the shadow of doubt, that other than the TEA PARTY caucus, politicians feel they have no responsibility to slam shut our borders. This is an accurate assessment when president Obama’s Leftist backing allows drug and people smuggling allow Mexican trucks go into operation throughout our nation. All free Trade markets agreements are completely unfair to the American people. Our president promised to straighten these unfair treaties, so we have a level playing field; this still hasn’t happened.
California’s notoriety is being labeled THE Sanctuary State, that just as Nevada, Arizona have been drowned in debt so is California with a $26 billion dollar deficit. It has been brought on partially by uncontrolled illegal immigration and the drying up of public welfare entitlements, meant for legitimate Americans and residents.
WAKE UP AMERICA! DON’T LET THE ARROGANT POLITICIANS RAISE THE $14 TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT CEILING. DON’T LET THE US TREASURY PRINT MORE MONEY? WE NEED A BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT; OTHERWISE RADICAL LIBERALS WILL HAVE US BORROWING EVEN MORE FROM FOREIGN NATIONS AND INVESTORS.
Like most promises of politicians, they are full of hot air. Even before Obama came to power with his Leftist progressive Czars, previous administrations have ignored the invasions from foreign countries. If they had been serious about stopping illegal aliens flooding this country, they would have made it a felony to enter? They would have constructed the–REAL–double fencing at the border and deploying the Nation Guard. The TEA PARTY will enact a bill to build the double border fence and push hard to enforce a permanent E-Verify, for every American worker; all long time employees or new hire. Nobody in the jurisdiction of United States will be exempt, with the full force of the law coming down on dirty business. Corporate welfare for business owners is a giant profit maker for those who use cheap labor. It’s pure greed, ego and rot in the business community, that is exporting US jobs and delivering to this country impoverished foreigners, who taxpayers are force by law to pay for.In addition “Secure Communities” should be the law of the land, to detect immediately the hundreds of thousands of illegal alien criminals amongst us. Everybody–no matter who is being processed for an infraction or Felony, should be fingerprinted and if illegal, loaded into a ICE van.
Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.) has introduced a bill (H.R.1274) titled “Keeping the Pledge on Immigration Act of 2011” that would increase border security and strengthen interior enforcement. Among the bill’s provisions this legislation would: 1. Will provide up to 4,000 additional national guard troops patrolling the southern border; 2. Will reaffirm language mandating “operational control” of the border as defined in the 2006 Secure Fence Act; 3. Will provide double and even triple layer fencing by September 30, 2014; 4. Will provide additional visa security screening for high risk visas including in-person interviews and data sharing. America is importing poverty at an accelerating rate and billions of dollars are being bled from every American State.
In the report, Ed Rubenstein, president of ESR Research and a former director of research at the Hudson Institute, reveals that the IRS knowingly allows illegal aliens to defraud taxpayers by getting cash through EITC payments of up to $5,750 for a family of five. The IRS also refuses to implement recommendations from its own Inspector General’s office that could stop massive EITC fraud that costs taxpayers as much as $13 billion a year. This is another reason all–AMERICANS, NATURALIZED CITIZENS AND LEGAL RESIDENTS SHOULD LOCATE AND JOIN THE TENS OF MILLIONS OF TEA PARTY ACTIVISTS IN THIS GATHERING STORM AGAINST LIBERAL PROGRESSIVES, OPEN BORDER LOBBYISTS. GAIN MORE FACTS AT NumbersUSA, JUDICIAL WATCH FIGHTING FOR LESSER GOVERNMENT; SECURE BORDERS, REMOVAL OF CORRUPT POLITICIANS TO SAVE OUR NATION.
DONALD TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT! HE ISN”T GOING TO ROB US BLIND LIKE OTHER POLITICIANS! UNLIKE OBAMA AND GOP THIS POTENTIAL LEADER WILL RENEGOTIATE ALL SO-CALLED FREE TRADE TREATIES, SPECIFICALLY WITH CHINA AND MEXICO.

Your response is baffling, Doug. If “the man” pulls you over and you can’t produce a driver’s license, that has a lot more bearing on the situation than, say, the status of your 1040EZ.
When I lived in the western ‘burbs of Chicago, the local paper used to print the police blotter. Most of the arrests were late at night for folks driving without a license. Invariably they were Hispanic surnames. You KNOW why they didn’t have a license. It doesn’t take a genius to figure this stuff out.

There’s something sinister about selective enforcement of rules by any government entity, such as legal status, and it’s even more sinister if checking is done only to determine is someone is llegal or in violation based on how a person looks .. It seems so historically ‘fascist’.
In France when a child is born he gets his personal dossier set up by government and everything that he does is noted there. The government needs it for benefits.Parents are sent so much money a year for each child under 18.It’s needed for health care which everyone has.University is free in France so you have to have a French government dossier. The problem is getting accepted. It’s true no one can easily hide in France, but the French love being French so it never has seemed an issue.
But at least in France the dossier sytem is predictable, has benefits as well as penalities, and everything is above board and fully understood by everyone. I cringe more at the haphazard American system where checking a person’s legality status is left to the political climate of the day and who happens to be in control and what their agenda is,and some states are more random than others. It’s usually not the Federal Government we have to be afraid of in the USA.
