The National Republican Congressional Committee has been airing ads attacking Brad Ellsworth, trying to paint him as a zombie who will serve his liberal San Francisco liberal masters if elected to Congress. As a counterattack, the Ellsworth campaign has come up with an interesting approach to turning one of Hostettler’s traditional “positives” into a “negative.”
Hostettler traditionally foregoes PAC money and raises very little money of his own with which to campaign. Normally, this is seen as a good thing. Not beholden to special interests, close to his constituents, etc. etc. Trouble is that, as a consequence of his minimal campaign funds, he owes a lot of his electoral activity to money spent by the National Republican Congressional Committee which uses money that is decidedly more tainted than the money raised by Hostettler personally. Ellsworth is raising ads that suggest Hostettler shouldn’t get a free ride simply because the money spent on behalf of his campaign is first laundered through the NRCC. Instead, the Ellsworth campaign is attempting to tag Hostettler with all of the sins of the NRCC, links to convicted Republican felon superlobbyist Jack Abramoff and the spreading scandal involving Congressmen such as convicted Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-CA), indicted Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX), and convicted Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH). (See the Grand Old Docket for a rundown of criminal activity involving prominent politicians.)

Since my family, friends and relatives vote in this district I will comment on it.I feel Mr.Ellsworth will win the race.We have never voted for Mr.Hostettler and frankly I do not care for the man but most people I talk to are completly in agreement with his stance on illegal immigration. In a town hall meeting he had here a few months ago he spoke on the issue and fielded many questions on the subject from people who were upset with the protests in May by the illegal and legal immigrants carrying Mexican flags.
Frankly the ad by the Hostettler campaign trying to link Ellsworth to Pelosi is quite effective for those of us who know anything about her and her far left agenda and before I`m accused of being a right wing republican I am a registered democrat but I and my family vote positions on issues not party.
The thought of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid being the speaker and leader of their party if it is in the majority scares us to death. We can`t stand either one of them.
How hypocritical of the President to constantly talk about security and then not secure our borders.
How hypocritical of the democrats to attack Wal Mart because of the wages they pay while at the same time trying to grant a amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants and want a guest worker program to let hundereds of thousands more of them in a year to compete for the same low skilled jobs they claim do not pay enough!Do they think by flooding the labor market with hundereds of thousands of guest workers will improve wages for the lower wage working people they claim to champion the cause of?Give me a break!
If you cant tell by reading this we are among the millions who watch Lou Dobbs on CNN.We also watch Fox news so I guess we hear all sides.Never the network news.
Oh well the point maybe moot anyway as to who I vote for in this race since as I stated before in this blog my voting days are coming to a end if the DOT switches Martin county to Eastern time because I do not believe in tainted unfair processes and that`s what it will be if the counties are switched back.Given the DOT`s comments in the final ruling and the farce of a petition we have exposed for what it is lies, omissions, and misrepresentations.Sorry for getting off the subject.

One more thought on the eighth district cogressional race these two guys or their partys sure are spending a hell of a lot of money on tv ads. When we sit down to watch tv it seems like there`s one on every few minutes!

Phillip,
Could you provide some examples of what’s so terrible about Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid.
A Carmel businessman of my acquaintance expressed his distate for former Senate Majority Tom Daschle once. I asked him what was wrong with Daschle, and he said, “he’s the devil.” He offered no elaboration, and I sought none, since I knew the man was a devout Christian and did not seek to get involved in armchair theology.
Well, he got his wish, and Tom Daschle is out of office. I wouldn’t lay money on him feeling that the world is any less godless than it was.
Therefore I hope you’ll understand why I seek more substantive criticism of politicians, even if I may end up disagreeing with that substance.

Mr.Reid and Ms Pelosi believe in amnesty for illegal immigrants and a guest worker program for one thing and that simply does not fly around here.I used to believe that the democrats were for the working people but when they want to bring in more cheap labor to under cut the very peoples wages they say they champion this is hyocritical.Harry Reid years ago was a border security person then flip floped to his current position.
The one where this country has to ask Mexico permission (consult)where they can put a fence on our own border. That little goody was inserted in that pitiful legislation called comprehensive immigration reform by Senator Dodd(D).
To be fair to Mr.Ellsworth he claims to have and has stated over and over he has the same position as Hostettler on immigration.I met the man a few weeks ago at a Dave Crooks(D) fund raiser in Washington.

Can someone explain to me why everyone just assumes it will be Pelosi and Reid?

I don’t think the Pelosi/Reid punch actually lands for the simple reason that most people don’t know who they are. They especially don’t know about any of their legislation or votes.
The only people that actually seem to know who Pelosi/Reid are are either Democrats that pay attention to politics, or RWers that listen to Hannity/Limbaugh. In either case their mind was made up a long time ago.

Could be that those sorts of ads will help motivate the base to get to the polls on election day — scaring them with the boogiemen of Reid and Pelosi even though they’re not terribly excited about Hostettler in particular.
