Steve Buyer has, from time to time, shown himself to be fairly thin-skinned for a politician. Now he is claiming that President Obama called him a liar during Obama’s address to the nation on health care which was interrupted by the outburst of Rep. Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina “First in Treason!”). Asked about that, Rep. Buyer said he thought he understood why Wilson did it.
Moments before Wilson’s outburst, Obama had talked of his critics “spreading disinformation and lies,” Buyer said. What the president was doing at that moment “was calling us liars,” Buyer said.
Buyer said he took offense to those remarks himself.
So, we know which comments Buyer took offense to because he specifies the moments before Wilson’s unfortunate bout with Tourettes. Let’s look at the comments that Buyer identifies himself with when he says that the President was calling “us” liars:
Some of people’s concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Such a charge would be laughable if it weren’t so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.
There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false – the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.
Note that President Obama didn’t identify who he is saying made these claims. By talking about “us,” Buyer is identifying himself as someone who makes these claims. And, if he is, then he’s a liar and shouldn’t be offended if someone calls him one. And, if he’s not, then he’s being overly sensitive.

Hm.. have there been any reports about what BUYER had to say when he held a meeting at Faith Baptist yesterday? I was unable to get out there to participate.
Pila says
I think you are correct, Doug. Buyer is identifying with those who make bogus claims.
John Meyer says
I was at the Town Hall meeting this Saturday. Congressman Buyer did say what Rep. Joe Wilson screamed during President Obama’s address was wrong. He also addressed these “death panels”. He mentioned it started with Fmr. Gov. Sarah Palin. Mr. Buyer did say what Palin said was wrong and that there are no “death panels” in any health-care plan.
Doug says
Then why is he being all delicate about President Obama calling people out as liars who say these things?
Liz says
Simple … just playing politics.
Kurt M. Weber says
The fact of the matter is, none of this is relevant.
Government works by holding guns to the heads of people who haven’t hurt a soul in their life and forcing them to do things they’re not otherwise inclined to do. Not only is this always a recipe for disaster, but, more importantly, it is always morally indefensible.

Look at the youtube video of Buyer in Plainfield. There he backed the death panel statement.
