I’m often one of Speaker Bosma’s critics, but today he did a couple of good things. First, he leaned on Rep. Thompson to withdraw his anti-anti-gay discrimination ordinance amendment. Now I see, according to the Indy Star, he prevailed on Rep. Foley to (essentially) withdraw the the judicial power grab he stuck into House Bill 1419.
I’m sure I will disagree with Representative Bosma on plenty of issues in the future, but I think he deserves some credit for today’s work.

do you think (as the star intimated) that the GOP was so upset about the anti-anti-gay amendment more becaues it put them in an awkward place during an election year – if they voted against it they’d be “pro-gay” in the eyes of some of their base (Advance Indiana and its nasty ilk), and if they voted for it, they’d be anti-cities and town home rule?
I’m pretty cynical, though. Yay on the Foley nonsense. I’m sure the IBA had words with them.

No, I think the Republicans were upset about Rep. Thompson’s anti-gay amendment because it jammed them up with the eminent domain bill. I don’t think they wanted the social conservative wedge issues stuck in what will likely be a fairly popular bill.

I’m a writer for PolState.com and just found your blog. In fact, I referenced one of your posts as I’m covering a few states we don’t have writers for at present. Visit the site. We need Indiana writers.

Two good moves by Bosma in one day? Unbelievable!
