I think progressive tends to be like “liberal” without the 30 years of focused bad PR baggage and demonization from Limbaugh, Fox, and any number of Scaife funded organizations.
For me, progressive means moving forward and is a more literally descriptive term to describe my goals and beliefs. It also seems a more direct “opposite” of the literal meaning of the term conservative, which represents the status quo.
I’ve read somewhere that, historically, liberals were anti-communist and the progressives did not describe themselves similarly. To the modern right, liberals and progressives ARE communists so the distinction between liberal and progressive seems moot. ;)
