Niki Kelly, writing for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, is reporting that despite increased focus on the issue, primarily through lobbying efforts by “Hoosiers for Beverage Choices,” the General Assembly will not take up the issue of allowing alcohol sales on Sundays. That anachronistic prohibition will be in effect for at least one more year because “legislative leaders are calling for a moratorium on alcohol-related legislation.”
I understand that often times legislation doesn’t get passed or even considered. But the “moratorium on alcohol-related legislation” seems a little arbitrary to me. This is a long session, immediately following an election. To me, it seems like everything should be on the table. (With the normal hurdles of getting legislation heard in place.) Anyone know what the stated reason is for the alcohol legislation moratorium?

My guess is the restaurant/bar industry tries to stop this legislation worked, and thus we have a moratorium. At the grocery store where I work sales are down overall, but the beer/wine department is currently breaking records.

For what it’s worth, I’ve noticed an improvement in grocery store wine & beer selections over the past several years.
