Dan Stockman, writing for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, has a nice write up about the Mad Anthony Brewing Company. I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting one of their restaurants, but occasionally I can find a store in Lafayette that sells their beer, and it has always been fine stuff. Mad Anthony, along with Three Floyds and Oaken Barrel are probably my three favorite Indiana brewing companies. (This is probably a betrayal of my own Lafayette Brewing Company, but I’m still recovering from the Tippecanoe Common Ale which I really didn’t like — the Black Angus Oatmeal Stout is really good though.)

Try the very fine Indiana Brugge

Also, rumors of a new Lafayette brewery opening late this summer…

I do love Three Floyds, but I have yet to try any of the Mad Anthony. One of my goals for the summer was to try at least one beer from each Indiana brewery…

Thanks for the tip, Paul. Also, I should once again mention the fine Hoosier Beer Geek website.

Thanks for the compliments, Doug. I went to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo just as Bell’s Brewery was coming into its own, so I have a long, loving relationship with well-made craft brews. In fact, I covered the opening of Bell’s Brew Pub, the first in Michigan, for the student paper at WMU. It’s great to see Indiana’s craft beer industry developing so nicely.

Bell’s Brewery is something else. Much as I want to be prejudiced in favor of Indiana beers, Bell’s seems to be a can’t-miss proposition for me. I like pretty much everything they make. And the Kalamazoo Stout is one of my Top 5 favorite beers.
