Apparently Hillary Clinton showed some emotion on the campaign coverage. I’m not a big fan of Sen. Clinton’s, but the press coverage of this stuff is stupid, bordering on hysteria. Oh, she’s breaking down! It’s calculated! I think maybe she a) meant what she was saying and how she was saying it; and b) she has to be dog-tired after all that campaigning; and c) the display of emotion was pretty mild.
Meanwhile, I kind of like Barack Obama, but I have to confess, I am a little bewildered by all of the (to me) over the top “hope of a new generation” commentary I’ve been hearing and reading. And it’s not just pundits and bloggers. I’ve heard a number of superlatives from friends and acquaintances talking about Obama’s recent speeches. I get the feeling that Obama is the kind of guy upon whom folks can project their hopes and dreams, regardless of whether he is actually an instrument by which they can be achieved.
I’ve expressed my preference for Edwards before, but I wouldn’t be at all upset if Obama got the nomination. The degree to which Edwards is left out of the pundits’ conversation is truly amazing. I hear more about Rudy Giuliani than I hear about John Edwards despite Edwards’ superior poll numbers and fund raising. (Ron Paul supporters are now suggesting I cry them a river.) I’m realistic enough to realize that Edwards’ path to the White House is not clear if one even exists. In sporting terms, he does not seem to control his own destiny. He has to hope for some help, either through Clinton or Obama imploding or something else. He could have an interesting role to play if we get to the Democratic Convention with neither of the other two having a majority of the delegates.

Have you seen the clip about Ron Paul’s newsletter as racist and homophobic? There is news out there…
Doug says
Yup, I’ve seen the Ron Paul newsletter stuff. Certainly he’s got a lot of ‘splainin’ to do if he ever got himself into the top tier. The “I didn’t know what was going out under my by-line” explanation doesn’t quite cut it.

C’mon, let’s tell it like it is. The Democratic party is being hi-jacked by the African American contingency, just like the Republican party was hijacked by the Religious Right. The coming election only will point one way – further polarization – and a fight for entitlement and the taxpayer’s dollars to more special interests. The media is too scared to reveal this, even Politico, because of the religious and race card.
Obama is as polarizing as Chicago politics. He runs his organization like Daily runs his machine.
Oh yeah, that’s right, Obama is part of the Daily machine – its called patronage.
stAllio! says
funny that you claim to know so much about democratic chicago politics and yet you don’t even know how to spell mayor daley’s name.

stAllio!,
Yeah, but compared to you, he’s got amazing shift key skills.

Let’s compare the Bush administration with the Daley machine.Having lived in Chicago myself for a time I have recognized from the start many similarlities: rewarding loyalty over competency, giving contracts to friends and donors, blaming the press for revealing sweet heart deals. In Chicago it helps to be Irish and with Bush it helps to an Evangelical Christian.
We all have our favorite special interest group to hate and one to pander to.With Obama the ins and outs will change ,but also special interest groups would have to re-organize with new criteria and then re-align.
But, man, wouldn’t it be great to see some liberal-oriented special interest groups be taken seriously! When did that last happen?
It’s debatable for some of course, but I would estimate that Chicago as a city under Daleys has functioned better than this country has under Bushes.I would add that the Press in Chicago has always been hard on Daley on local issues, and a series of Republican county prosecutors have loved to look into Chicago irregularities.Just think if Daley could appoint the county prosecutors. The Bush regime also have their own media that panders to them so they always have their side presented on Fox news or by one of their well-known radio-TV apologists ( Limbaugh, Hannity and others).

Wilson, you are such a racist. When will you stop blaming the rest of us for everything?

I read all the “Shrill, emotional Hillary” stories yesterday, then sat through the video waiting to see something. Oh, her voice cracked. Oh, dear. After reading the press, I thought she had menstruated on camera or something.
Rev. AJB says
Her voice broke…twice, I think. Plus she had her head in her hands.
She may have menstruated on camera, but since she3 was sitting down…we’ll never know;-)

I’m not overly fond of Hillary, but on this I have to commiserate. All of the commentary on how she speaks, what she wears, etc. so trivializes her as a candidate. If I were her, I would be ready to rip heads from shoulders with my bare hands. I really thought we, as a nation, would be past this by now.

Now… what the heck kind of gravatar is that?
