Perry County gets some time to make its case to the USDOT: Docket/Document Information
DOT is providing notice of a petition from the Board of Commissioners in Perry County, IN, to change the time zone boundary for the County from the Central Time Zone to the Eastern Time Zone, and DOT’s request for additional information from Perry County to aid in its determination of whether this change would serve the convenience of commerce, the statutory standard for a time zone change. Other persons supporting or opposing the change to Perry County’s time zone boundary are also requested to provide comment. The final rule will be based on all of the information received during the entire rulemaking proceeding and whether the statutory standard has been met. DATES: Comments should be received by August 31, 2007, to be assured of consideration.

I think Perry county may have a shot to reamin in the Central time zone.I believe the five counties in my region will return to the eastern time zone due to a corupt process.Anybody doesn’t agree with me tough.I believe this to be true.Ice Miller and it’s inaccurate misleading information has been exposed but it will matter not!
It is fundamentaly wrong to destroy the quality of life for the thousands of cross time zone boundary commuters which are more numerous than the mainly Eastern time Crane employees crossing the time bouindary to work and have flex scheduling, a liberal leave policy and a few businesses that as the DOT put it have been historically behind the Eastern time connections in Eastern time states almost 7 months a year for the past decades.
Remember the Perry county commissioners resolution was they only wish to return to the Eastern time zone “IF” the five counties request for Eastern was granted. What does the issueing of this NPRM for Perry county tell everybody about what the decision of the five counties will be??Seems to me it means Eastern time for the five counties.

On reading the DOT’s “Supplemental Notice” it did not appear to me that the Office actually proposed moving Perry County to Eastern Time. They seem particularly interested though in Perry County’s connections to the other five petitioning counties. But Perry County has the strongest ties to the Central Time Zone of any of the SW six counties that was moved. It might turn out that data linking Perry to the other five counties damages the other five counties chances on being returned to Eastern.

Paul,
If you throw Perry county into the mix with the five counties and study the connections of these six counties to each other and the previous Central time counties these regional connections are quite strong and favor Central time in a lot of instances and in fact this was referenced in the January 17,2006 final ruling. In the 53 pg NPRM for the five counties they fail in several instances in making case for Eastern time for the counties maost notably commuting patterns.I am a skeptic however and smell something rotten.Hope I am wrong.
