There has been a somewhat interesting development in the Carroll County Prosecutor’s race. Perennial candidate and occasional Prosecutor Jim Huffer has decided to run against the Republican candidate, Tricia Thompson.
Huffer and current Prosecutor Rob Ives had see-sawed back and forth as Caroll County prosecutor. Huffer had run against Ives four times, winning twice in non-consecutive elections. In 2004, Huffer was convicted of a misdemeanor drunken driving charge and had apparently decided not to run for office this time around. That changed, apparently because Tricia Thompson, a deputy prosecutor, defeated Ives in the Republican primary.
So, it looks like the wild and woolly world of Carroll County prosecutorial elections will continue.

I hope this website has the purpose of displaying all accurate information from both sides when it takes an opinion on an election. Can I ask for some research on how many times Tricia Thompson has been fired from prosecutorial jobs? Or a comparison on the candidates’ contributions to the community? Perhaps Jim Huffer was concerned about the state of Carroll County’s legal system if left to the hands of such an inexperienced and incompetant candidate…..
I look forward to your update….

Feel free to post any relevant facts. This is a more or less open forum.

Ms. Thompson has never been fired from a prosecutor position and has several years experience as a Deputy prosecutor. Maybe she was the one that was concerned about the state of Carroll County’s legal system. Obviously the people of Carroll County were concerned also since neither Mr. Ives nor Mr. Huffer served consecutive terms.
Jim Huffer says that being charged with a DWI makes him a better prosecutor. How??
“inexperienced and incompetant candidate…”? Maybe you should get your facts straight. She has several years experience as a prosecutor. The police officers were so impressed with her job as prosecutor that they went against the incumbent and helped her campaign.
Carroll County deserves to have a prosecutor that cares and will work to put the criminals behind bars not let them off with a slap on the wrist.

Carroll county has always been known as the easy county for criminals.Meth manufacturers have gotten off for years, and child molesters walk. It is time for someone new to step up to the plate and protect our children from sexual preditors and drug users.

Republican judges, attorneys, and police officers are the ones who contacted Mr. Huffer and pleaded for him to run against Thompson in the first place. Clearly the people who are knowledgeable about the Prosecutor position AND the competencies of both Huffer and Thompson were not comfortable placing Thompson in that position. Thompson has six years experience as an attorney in several different jobs; you cannot possibly compare that to Huffer’s 30 years as chief and deputy prosecutor. She barely knows how the job works.
