Talking Points Memo has a story about a gaffe by the Richard Mourdock Senate campaign entitled “Mourdock Accidentally Releases Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Reaction To ‘Obamacare”. Mourdock was taped responding to a variety of potential decisions by the Supreme Court on the healthcare reform law. His campaign accidentally released them all before the decision has been handed down. Apparently all possible outcomes are indictments of Joe Donnelly and great reasons for people to vote for and give money to Richard Mourdock.
Reminds me of Krusty the Clown, “I heartily endorse this event or product.”

I hope Mourdock’s media team spends as much time on his concession speech.

Carlito +1
I wish this was just a (silly) indictment of Mourdock’s phony one-answer-for-everything secular theology. Instead it’s a silly peek behind the scenes at what we all oughta understand, regardless of views: that the obscene amounts of money in politics buys us the same level of discourse we get from advertisements for rival brands of hemorrhoid ointments.

In my opinion, this whole thing is a Rorscach Test, and you see what you want to see. As a Mourdock supporter, I see a candidate that was preparing for all four likely outcomes, and wanted to cover his bases. If you prefer Donnelly, you probably see some double-speaking politician. It is what it is.
Nothing to see here other than a Mourdock staff which leaves a little to be desired and became a little upload happy. I am guessing many first time Senate candidates have these types of campaign issues, including successful ones. (Sorry Carlito).

I see an extremist partisian singing in the only key that his character can intonate.

The problem with fighting Lugar is that you have to go to his right to win the primary. Now that the primary is over, let’s see if Mourdock pushes to the middle as is common.
Mario C. says
Let’s see? I guess you didn’t see Mourdock take to the national airwaves the day after the primary, proudly proclaiming he won’t being doing any compromising as United States senator. Mourdock won’t be transitioning to the center because he has no intention of representing, or even considering, any viewpoint other than his own. What an absolutely absurd and ridiculous point of view for a man who hopes to represent an entire state. He’s a complete fool, and so are his supporters.
Carlito Brigante says
Paul, it is the conventional strategy to stake out more moderate positions after a primary. But with Mourdock I do not think there is a political will tto shake the etch-a-sketch. I see a politican and a party that was sent over the edge by a defeat in 2008 and believes that the tea party soiree of 2010 is the path to victory.
Run on it. It will play in Cicero. But good luck with it in Columbus and Corydon.
