Im sorry no one has written a note about Molly Ivins. We knew what to expect if we had followed her accounts of Bush double dealing and his rise to power as an eventual candidate for president.It was the national triumph of the Texas ‘good ol’ boys( her term) and their protege, GWB. She seemed to know every dirty deed he( and they) ever did. She wrote about big oil, big business and big everything and was always the champion of the little guy. But her Bush accounts are what she will be remembered for.
I’ve been meaning to comment on Molly Ivins since noting her passing. Having read her burn Texas politicians of all stripes during a stint I had working in Fort Worth, I have to disagree with Lou that her “Bush accounts” (as in the current Bush) are what she will be remembered for. She will be remembered for capturing the essence of phony public images, and destroying them, in the fewest possible words. In this regard, I rather think she did a better job on George I than on George II. It was of George I that she said something to the effect that you could tell he wasn’t a real Texan since no Texan uses “summer” as a verb (as in “We summer in Maine”). It was true artistry to take someone down in so few words.

I heard an interview today of Lou De Vos who worked with her in Texas and he co-authored a book with her ‘Shrub’. He had a couple of quotes that are worth repeating,and I hope I can remember them to do him justice. He said that she had such an authentic Texas way of writing,and was so funny in a way everyone could understand, people read her and didn’t realize she was liberal.He also said she worked as recently as 2 weeks ago and was still focused on bringing pompous bad-intentioned political leaders to the light of day.
